About BioFlowBeauty

Where science meets the art of feeling well

The person behind the blog

My name is Leonardo Olivieri Carvalho. I am a biomedical scientist with research published in the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry (Wiley), where my work explored cellular signaling and the biochemical mechanisms that govern how the human body functions at a molecular level.

I created BioFlowBeauty because I kept seeing the same problem repeated: women receiving beauty and health advice built on marketing language, influencer opinions, and ingredients chosen for their price tag rather than their evidence base. The gap between what the research actually shows and what gets sold as “the next big thing” is enormous.

BioFlowBeauty exists to close that gap.

What this blog is about

Every article here starts with the peer-reviewed literature, not with a brand brief or a trending ingredient. I cover:

  • Skincare science — how the skin barrier works, which ingredients have genuine evidence behind them, and what the research says about treatments like chemical peels, microneedling, and retinoids
  • Hormonal health — the biology of the menstrual cycle, perimenopause, thyroid function, and the lifestyle factors that genuinely affect hormonal balance
  • Nutrition for women — evidence-based eating for energy, skin health, metabolic function, and longevity
  • Makeup and cosmetic safety — what regulatory bodies actually say about common ingredients, and how to make informed choices about the products you use daily
  • Hair health — the biology of growth, loss, and what the science supports for care and treatment
  • Weight and metabolism — what works, what does not, and why so many popular approaches fail the evidence test

My editorial philosophy

Beauty is not vanity. Taking care of your body, your skin, and your health is an act of self-respect, and you deserve accurate information to do it well.

I write for women who are curious, who want to understand the reasoning behind recommendations, and who are tired of being sold certainty where the science only offers nuance.

You will find my published research at the Wiley Journal of Cellular Biochemistry.
